Kanye West was the musical guest for the 44th season opener of SNL this wknd. Or, we should call him Ye. He tweeted on Saturday that he will now be known as “YE.” During his performance of “I love It” he, dressed up as a giant bottle of Perrier water. Lil Pump, dressed as a bottle of still water. The outfits were a reference to Kanye’s lyric in the song, “When the first time they ask you if you want sparklin’ or still? Why you tryna act like you was drinkin’ sparklin’ water ‘fore you came out here?”
Kanye also gave an unexpected speech about his support of President Trump, that did not make it to air and got boos from the audience. He also claimed he was bullied backstage and told not to wear a Make America Great Again hat on the show. At least one person praised him for it …. Trump. Later tweeting, “Like many, I don’t watch Saturday Night Live (even though I past hosted it)–no longer funny, no talent or charm. It is just a political ad for the Dems,” he wrote. “Word is that Kanye West, who put on a MAGA hat after the show (despite being told ‘no’), was great. He’s leading the charge!”
And Ye’s fans are mad when he didn’t drop his Yandhialbum on Saturday night. Kanye tweeted last week that he would drop a new LP following his appearance.
Pete Davidson poked fun at his engagement to Ariana Grande. Saying “Do you remember when that whole city pretended that kid was Batman because he was, like, sick? That’s what this feels like.” Davidson joked that he wants to make sure the couple signs a prenup so Grande doesn’t take half his sneakers. He also claimed he “switched her birth control with Tic Tacs… to make sure that she can’t go anywhere.”
