As far as winners go, Taylor Swift became the most decorated female winner in the history of the American Music Awards. Winning four awards to reach 23 overall wins and pass the record previously held by Whitney Houston. Cardi B was named Rap/Hip-Hop Artist of the Year and Carrie Underwood won her fifth consecutive Country Female title.
Taylor also took advantage of one of her acceptance speeches to encourage people to get out and vote in November. Saying, “This award and every single award given out tonight are voted on by the people, and you know what else is voted on by the people? The midterm elections on Nov. 6,”
