NBC fired longtime TODAY host Matt Lauer for alleged sexual misbehavior. Reports are that he sexually harassed at least three female colleagues. Among alleged transgressions were dropping his pants in front of a co-worker, whom he reprimanded after she refused to engage in a sex act. Lauer also reportedly gave another co-worker a sex toy as a gift, and included a note about how he wanted to use it on her. The married anchor also reportedly engaged in consensual extramarital affairs with co-workers. He bragged about sleeping with Katie Couric and Anne Curry during a 2008 comedy roast dedicated to him.
Like Harvey Weinstein, he developed a pattern of inviting women to his hotel room, especially when covering the Olympic Games. Another allegation is that he assaulted a female NBC staffer during the 2014 Sochi Olympics. Back in a 2012 interview, Katie Couric told Andy Cohent that, “[Lauer] pinches me in the a** a lot.” Just hours after Savannah Guthrie announced Lauer’s firing on TODAY, the New York Times ran an article that revealed NBC has received at least two more complaints about Lauer. One complaint came from a former employee who claimed he summoned her to his office in 2001, locked the door and sexually assaulted her until she passed out.
